Property Tax Rebate for Seniors Program ends December 31, 2016

The Property Tax Rebate for Seniors Program ends December 31, 2016. Service Nova Scotia must receive an applicant’s application or previously requested follow up information by the Post Mark Date of December 31, 2016 or the application will automatically be declined.

For quick reference the Property Tax Rebate for Seniors Program requirements are as follows:

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for the rebate:

●   Must provide proof that they received or were eligible to receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement or the Allowance in JANUARY 2016. If they do not have proof, the applicant can call CRA at 1-800-277-9914 to obtain a letter as proof.

●   Must provide proof that their 2015 Municipal Property Taxes are in their name or include their name and that they are regularly residing in the home at the time of application. Applicants must own the property for which they are applying for a rebate.

●   Must provide proof that their 2015 Municipal Property Taxes are paid in full and include the receipts with their application. An interim bill is not considered proof. If they do not have receipts showing that their taxes are paid in full they must provide a Municipal Property Tax Sheet. A Municipal Property Tax Sheet can be obtained by calling (local) 902-424-5200 or (toll free) 1-800-670-4357. Applicants must take this Municipal Property Tax Sheet to their Municipality where it can be filled out by an official representative of the Municipality.

If SNS does not receive an applicant’s new and/or outstanding information by the Post Mark Date of December 31, 2016, the application for the rebate will automatically be declined.
