Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Income tax filing season is just around the corner and the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is in the process of recruiting volunteers in preparation for its 46th program.

Through the CVITP, community organizations host free tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Volunteers donate their time to help members of their community not only meet their tax filing obligations but also ensure they receive the benefits and credits to which they are entitled. Last year, more than 15,000 volunteers participated in the program, filing over 700,000 returns for fellow Canadians.

This year, they hope to even further expand this valuable program in Nova Scotia. In order to offer free tax preparation clinics, more community volunteers are needed in our area.

Volunteers will increase their personal tax knowledge, gain new skills and improve existing ones, all while doing work that is valued and recognized.

You can find more information on the program, including clinic and volunteer locations, on their website.
