The Home Energy Assistance Top-up (HEAT) Fund is open for the 2020 season

The Home Energy Assistance Top-up (HEAT) Fund will soon be open for the 2020 season.

For 20 years, the former Good Neighbour Energy Fund (the GNEF), now called the HEAT Fund, has helped keep thousands of individuals and families across Nova Scotia warm during the winter. In 2006, the Fund helped 945 individuals/families and has grown to help 2,518 individuals/families last winter.

The Province of Nova Scotia through Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services, Nova Scotia Power, its employees and its customers, have played a significant role in growing this Fund to help more families each year. The HEAT Fund is a great example of the work that can be done when the private sector, government, and not-for-profit organizations come together to help Nova Scotians.

The HEAT Fund runs from January through April of each year with maximum assistance in the amount of $400 for individuals and families. Applicants are invited to re-apply every 24 months for support through the Fund.

If you are in an emergency home heating situation, we invite you to download the application form, pick up a form from your local Salvation Army church or thrift store, or your local MLA office.
