Today, I had the privilege of introducing the Heating Rebate Program Increase Act in the Legislature. This important piece of legislation is designed to provide greater financial relief to Nova Scotians who are feeling the pinch of rising heating costs.
Under this Act, the income threshold for the Heating Assistance Rebate Program, which is administered by the Department of Service Nova Scotia, will be increased to $85,000. This change means that more households will qualify for assistance. Additionally, we are raising the rebate amount to $1,000 to offer more substantial support to those who need it most.
The Act also ensures that eligibility, funding, and administration of the program will be reviewed annually to keep it aligned with the needs of Nova Scotians. The funds required for this initiative will be appropriated by the Legislature.
By introducing the Heating Rebate Program Increase Act, we are taking a meaningful step toward helping residents manage their heating costs and stay warm throughout the winter months.
