Acadians across the province will celebrate their heritage on National Acadian Day, Monday, Aug. 15.
“National Acadian Day is a time to celebrate the heritage of our Acadian and francophone communities and the influence the culture has had on our province,” said Acadian Affairs Minister Michel Samson. “I encourage all Acadians to fly their Acadian flags proudly.”
Activities across the province include:
— fun for the whole family at Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos, West Pubnico, Yarmouth Co., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
— a celebration of mass in French at the National Historic Site of Grand Pré, Kings Co., beginning at 11 a.m.
— Tintamarre of the Festival Acadien de Clare, which starts at 6 p.m. in Saint-Bernard and Salmon River, Digby Co.
— Plaque unveiling to commemorate Jeanne Dugas, national historic person, at Les Trois Pignons, Cheticamp, Inverness Co.
— Festival acadien, Petit-de-Grat, Isle Madame, Richmond Co., from Aug. 10-15
— community barbecue, École du Sommet, 500 Larry Uteck Blvd., Halifax, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Acadian flag will be flown at Province House on Hollis Street in Halifax for the day.
As a division of the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Acadian Affairs contributes to the preservation and growth of Nova Scotia’s Acadian and francophone communities by advising and supporting government efforts to offer services in French.
