Nova Scotians Encouraged to Enjoy Sportfishing Season

The sportfishing season is now open and Nova Scotians are encouraged to head to one of the province’s waterways to take part. Sportfishing in Nova Scotia generates more than $58 million annually and has a large impact on the province’s rural economies. Last season, general and salmon fishing licence sales totaled over 69,000, up 16 per cent from 2015.

The province is investing $974,000 to reduce wait-lists for psychological educational assessments. Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey, announced today, April 6, a plan with Mount Saint Vincent University to work with registered psychologists to address the needs of the more than 300 students on referral lists.

People should check the BurnSafe website at novascotia.ca/BurnSafe for counties where burning domestic brush or campfires is permitted or restricted. The BurnSafe map is updated daily at 2 p.m. to show if burning of domestic brush and campfires is permitted that day.
